THE DESIGN PROCESS

INITIAL CONSULTATION

For the initial consultation, I will visit you at the site of garden to discuss your requirements and explore the art of the possible. The objective is to establish a detailed design brief and assess the scope of the works. There is a nominal charge for this visit which will then be deducted from the design fee if you wish to continue with the full design.

SITE SURVEY

After the initial consultation, I can then provide a proposal for the full design that includes all fees for the work. Once agreed, the first step of the design process is a detailed site survey to capture boundaries, levels, existing features, aspect, soil analysis, site access and services. These details are used to create a base plan for the site.

DESIGN CONCEPT

Once the base plan is established, a series of concept sketches can be created. These capture a range of different ideas that address the brief. This is an interactive process where we meet again to select the favoured elements to take forward to the final design.

MASTER PLAN

Taking the outputs from the design concepts, a final design is then produced. This will always include a 2D top-down masterplan. Additionally, it may also include 3D perspective drawings, sections and elevations to help visualise the design.

CONSTRUCTION AND PLANTING PLANS

If required, detailed construction diagrams and specifications can be produced. These will describe the hard landscaping materials and quantities required to generate accurate quotations from contractors to construct the garden design. Planting plans list the planting choices and layout.

GARDEN CONSTRUCTION AND PLANTING

Once you have your design artefacts, you can then hire a contractor to construct the garden. I can provide an advisory service during the construction phase for all questions relating to the design. I also offer a full plant procurement and planting service.
